Welcome

journal-082Hi! My name is Bill Wagner and I live with my dog in rural NC. I hope to pedal my Mountain Bike from Banff, AB Canada to the US/Mexican border at Antelope Wells, NM in an effort to raise money and awareness for the MIMA Foundation.  MIMA is a small, grassroots non-profit that is involved in a variety of humanitarian projects in both Africa and South America.  I'm a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and have worked extensively with their Surgical Program and can personally vouch for the necessity and quality of their work.  Each year MIMA screens hundreds of poor and remote villagers who need surgical procedures but have no means to pay.  If it weren't for MIMA, thousands of children and adults would be denied basic surgeries merely on the basis of access to health care.  Not a single member of MIMA receives any monetary compensation and EVERY volunteer has to generate the funds necessary to travel with the group each year.

Please join me in my adventure along The Continental Divide by opening your heart and your wallet for a great cause. The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) is the longest off-road bike route in the world. It is over 2700 miles long, has over 200,000 feet of elevation gain (equivalent to summiting Mount Everest from sea-level 7 times) and crosses the Continental Divide 30 times. Take a moment to explore the site if you'd like and I look forward to seeing or hearing from each of you! Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I'm sure I'll need them.

NO SPONSORS: Please know that I had to personally buy the bike, gear, maps, airline flights, etc for this fundraiser.  ALL the money goes to MIMA.

Blessings,

Bill

This year marks MIMA's 15th Anniversary as a reliable service organization!!

The annual Surgical Trip is in the final phases of planning and Team #1 is set to depart for Bolivia on 6/11/10. This team will comprise both General Surgery and Gynecological Services. Team #2 departs on 6/17/10 with the same surgical specialties. This year MIMA is sending a Nurse Mid-Wife to a variety of outlying villages in the hopes to improve the outcome of home deliveries. And again this year, MIMA is using teen volunteers to work in the local orphanages and in the homes of children with limited resources.

As for me, I've got my plane ticket to Calgary! I'm set to Depart Syracuse, NY on 6/24/10 and after a few days in and around Banff (sight-seeing and getting acclimated to the altitude) I'll likely start riding south around 6/28. All the work and planning and now it's really going to happen!

While I think this site is fairly straight forward there are three features that could use clarification. These are the search box, the accessibility toolbar and the feed entries link.

In the upper left hand corner of this site you'll find the search box. Entering a keyword into the search box will return a list of articles containing that keyword.

Search Box

In the upper right hand corner of this site you'll find the accessibility toolbar. The first three icons on the accessibility toolbar control the site's font size. You may select a small, medium or large font. The last four icons on the accessibility toolbar control the sites width. You may select thin fixed width (1000px), wide fixed width (1200px), thin fluid width (75% of screen size) or wide fluid width (95% of screen size). Select the combination of font size and screen width that gives you the best viewing experience.

At the very bottom of the home page you'll find a feed entries link.  Use this link to configure yourRSS reader to inform you when Bill updates this site.
